The Admission of Catechumens
Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 7:53PM This coming Sunday, November 27, at the 10:00 am High Mass we will have the Admission of Catechumens. This rite marks the catechumens official entry into the catechumenate program. From now until the beginning of Lent, the catechumens will commit to regular worship attendance, prayer for the church and each other, and regular study. It is a time of continued discernment.
The actual rite occurs after the sermon on Sunday. The catechumens and their sponsors will be invited forward to the altar rail, and everyone, including the congregation, will be asked a series of questions designed to show our support for those who are deepening their faith. The highlight of the rite is when the catechumens kneel, and the sponsors and celebrate pray over each catechumen. We will also begin to pray the names of the catechumens during the Prayers of the People on Sunday mornings, as well as at our daily masses at St. Mark's. Please keep the catechumens, the sponsors, and St. Mark's in your prayers during this time of growth and discernment.
