The Origins of the Holy Eucharist

Last Sunday we resumed our sessions, and our topic was the origins of the Eucharist. We reflected on the following questions/topics:

• How did the Eucharist evolve out of the Jewish Sabbath meal?
• What are the major components of the Eucharist?
• What do we mean when we refer to sevenfold and fourfold rites?
• What were some of the early abuses of the Eucharist in the early church?
• What did Maundy Thursday look like in regards to the Institution of the Lord's Supper?

We will continue this discussion this coming Sunday, February 22, after High Mass. Anyone who is interested in this topic is welcome to join the catechumens. In particular, this Sunday we will be analyzing one of the Eucharistic Prayers from the BCP, dividing it into its various parts. All are welcome.
