Daniel Werning
Organist & Choirmaster
Daniel Werning began serving as organist and choirmaster of St. Mark's in October 2009. He has two masters degrees—one in theology and one in church music. Altogether, he has over 30 years of experience accumulated in educational and theological ministry, and in music as an organist, choral director, and composer.
His undergraduate education was completed at Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska; a master’s degree in church music was completed at Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois; and a master's degree in theology was obtained at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
In addition, he is also the author of A Selected Source Index for Hymn and Choral Tunes, CPH 1984; he has composed choral pieces that were recorded by the Concordia Theological Seminary Kantorei; and he has built two harpsichords. One of these resides at Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver, where he was organist from 1978-80, and the other at Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska.
He is joined at St. Mark's by his wife Terry. She sings in the choir as an alto.
